Porter Spooner has been detailing structural and miscellaneous steel for more than 25 years. He began detailing stairs, rails and small structural steel projects right after college for a steel fabricator in New Hampshire. He later worked for another smaller fabrication shop where he not only detailed, but worked in the shop and erected the steel projects as well. He then moved on to work for an independent steel detailer. There, he detailed structural steel projects, typically in the 100 to 200 ton range, as well as stairs and rails of many different descriptions.
Porter has since started his own company, Spooner Steel Detailing. He has a Senior Detailer – Class 1, Individual Detailer Certification in Structural / Miscellaneous from the National Institute of Steel Detailing, NISD. He is currently detailing miscellaneous, industrial and small structural projects using Tekla Structures and AutoCAD.
